LORI LEFLER --- DOVE (Domestic Violence Education and Services)

Domestic violence is one of the most difficult social problems facing our society today, yet continues to be misunderstood by many.

It is the #1 cause of injury to women in the United States. Each year 4000 women are killed in our country as a result of domestic violence. The damage caused by domestic violence has far reaching effects that impact all of us, if only indirectly.

92% of prison inmates report having been abused as children or witnesses to abuse. Nationwide, 27% of police fatalities occur while responding to domestic violence calls.

The American Medical Association has declared that a woman is most at risk of injury or death in her own home from her own partner.

I was hoping to have good news for all of you but it seems that no one came forward to take the chairmanship for Bridge so there will be no Bridge Luncheon this year. The committee is working hard to come up with another fundraiser that we can do without a chairman. Life goes on, and life is good, we will survive!!!

It looks as though Ways and Means will have to raise between eight and ten thousand dollars this year and with your help we will do it. Betty Nordbak is hard at work on ads for our News letter. She is such an inspiration to all of us. The club is lucky to have her.

Next month I will report on how Betty did selling ads and I will report on the work that D’Lauren Kite is doing for the Imaginary Tea which I hope all of you will support.
