Bits 'n' PiecesHey, don't throw away those Campbells soup labels and pull tabs from cans! Bring them to our meetings. Labels go to our schools and pull tabs go to Ronald McDonald house. REPUBLICAN WOMEN HELPING THE TROOPS Shortly after the war began our Club learned that KCAL radio station in Redlands had made arrangements to be a collection point for various items needed by the troops. The donations are sent directly to the front lines in Afghanistan and Iraq via any of 5 Southern California Military installations . This seemed to be the most efficient and economical way for us to donate to the troops since there are no postal costs. Since then, our committee has worked together filling hundreds of gallon size bags with an assortment of items suggested on KCALs website. We always include our address, and as a result have received a number of notes and e-mails thanking us. The local grammar schools also contributed drawings and letters that we included in many of the bags. This is an ongoing project, so if you are interested in contributing there is a collection box in the hall beside LPL Financial Services upstairs in the Blue Jay Mall next to Jensens. Some suggested items are paperback books, Readers Digest, travel size toiletries, soaps, lotions, baby wipes, Gold Bond powder, chapstick, gum, crossword puzzles and other entertainment items, and cards or notes of thanks and encouragement. You probably can think of many more things; use your imagination! Your support will really be appreciated. If you have any questions call Judy Black, 336-2603 or Linda Lee Johnson, 337-7921. CHAPLAIN'S CORNER![]() A smile costs nothing, but gives much. it enriches those who receive, without making poorer those who give. it takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich or mighty that he cannot get along without it, and non is so poor but that he can be made rich by it. A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters goodwill in business, and is the countersign of friendship. It brings rest to the weary, cheer to the discouraged, sunshineto the sad and is nature's best antidote for trouble. Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed,or stolen for it is somthing that is of no value to anyone until it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as none need a smile so much as he who has no more to give. LAKE ARROWHEAD COMMUNITIES REPUBLICAN WOMEN, FEDERATED HELP RIM COMMUNITIES DOVES AT CHRISTMAS Republican Women arranged with Katharine Braun, Program Director for Rim Communities Doves, to provide Christmas to several women and their children. Our December 11th Christmas party was the drop off point for toys, clothes, food, and gift certificates. The donations probably totaled $2,000.00, and were so generous that after providing a much appreciated Christmas to three women and their children, Katharine was able to help two more clients with food and gift certificates. She said that the recipients were overwhelmed and expressed that they would have had no Christmas if it had not been for our gifts. It was a wonderful feeling for all of us to have been able to help these individuals.. Doves has an 18 bed shelter for women and children providing rehabilitation and counseling for domestic violence. They also provide restraining orders, and all of their services are without charge. They are having an awareness and sensitivity training conference April 29th at the Nottingham in Big Bear. This will be for law enforcement, medical personnel, educators and clergy. Doves is looking for volunteers to serve anywhere from Cedar Pines Park to Green Valley Lake. For information call Katharine at 338-8104. The Hot Line for emergencies is 1-800-851-7601.. If youre interested in joining Republican Women, and being a part of worthwhile causes like this, call our Membership Chairperson, Barbara Carbajal at 336-1371. Wed love to meet you. We love men also; we have more than 50 associate men members. . OUR CONSERVATIVE LIBRARY> JoAnn Hoffman, a long-time member and past President, has given us a wonderful selection of hardcover books to share with our members. They are at our Headquarters at LPL Financial in the Blue Jay Mall. We hope that youll take the opportunity to read some of them. Just call Lon LeBlanc at 337-8422, and if hes in you can meet Lon and take a book from the storage cabinet. There will be a sign out sheet in the cabinet so we can keep track of them. However, JoAnns main objective is that we educate ourselves with the books. She suggested that you also sign your name inside the book so that others can see who else has read it. This may generate some interesting discussions, or even lead to new friendships! With winter just around the corner, we may have just the book for you to curl up in front of the fire with.
