Assembly Bill 16 is currently in the committee on Health; CFRW OPPOSES AB 16. Assembly Bill 16 was introduced by democrat Sally Leiber. This is the same woman who has introduced the no-spanking bill. AB 16 would require all girls entering sixth grade to have a vaccine that will prevent them from contracting some of the strains of the human papillomavirus, HPV. Below is a short description of AB 16. Existing law prohibits the governing authority of a school or other institution from unconditionally admitting any person as a pupil of any private or public elementary or secondary school, child care center, day nursery, nursery school, family day care home, or development center, unless prior to his or her first admission to that institution he or she has been fully immunized against various diseases. This bill would, in addition, on and after July 1, 2008, prohibit the governing authority from unconditionally admitting any female pupil to the 6th grade level of any of those institutions unless the pupil has received the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. This bill contains related provisions to other existing laws. CFRW has taken an oppose position on AB 16. There are many reasons why CFRW took an oppose position on AB 16. Some of the reasons include: Gardasil was fast tracked by the FDA; Gardasil has not been adequately tested on young girls; Gardasil is not a vaccine against all of the types of HPV that may lead to cervical cancer; the National Vaccine Information Center does not support giving this vaccine to adolescent girls; and, probably most importantly, our own Republican lawmakers have labeled this bill an inappropriate government mandate. Please remember, individual members have the freedom to take any position that they choose. .
Support the children of our troops by donating to the following approved organization. Click on the image below: "Protecting Our Children" On March 18, 2006, the NFRW Board of Directors passed a very important resolution regarding "Jessicas Law.">"Jessicas Law" is named for a nine-year-old girl who was kidnapped by a convicted sexual offender from her Florida home, raped and later murdered. Many states have enacted versions of the law and numerous others are considering similar legislation. > The NFRW is thoroughly committed to protecting our children through such legislation.
